RE: Xantrex XM1000 Transfer Switch Problem

One thing, make sure you have a large gauge extension cord, or don't use one at all if possible. My XM1800 kept tripping out and resetting because of voltage drop, which increases the load. Maybe also check your incoming voltage. As soon as I used a heavier extension cord the problem went away.

RE: Installing new rear view mirror

I'd like to know just what the heck you can see from the mirror on the windshield? The mirror on my class C can only see the inside of the coach, and is pretty worthless for anything else. The rear tv camera is the only way I can see anything worthwhile outside. And that's also on a Ford E450.

RE: Faucet Water Filter

Our last MH had the Everpure filter under the sink, with a special spigot for drinking water only. We superchlorinated the tank per their instructions and the filter removed the chlorine from the water, along with all dangerous organisms. It worked well and kept the tank from ever building up algae. Presently we just have a standard filter on the cold under the kit sink and it works just fine. We're not fanatics about it and I'm not too worried about water anywhere I go.

RE: Edenpure Quartz infrared portable heater

I think most of these ads for "space age" or ceramic heaters are just a bunch of bull. They all use 1500 watts of electricity (about 14.5 amps) and you can only get so much heat out of what you put into it. I just use a small electric heater with hi/lo fan from a garage sale for $5 and it heats the MH just fine.
Maybe someone with more electrical knowledge can add more to my theory.

RE: Calico Ghost Town

If I remember right, most of the sites will take your motorhome. Even if you're not right in the tent area, the rv sites are very close. We stayed there a couple of years ago with our 30' MH and saw many other large units there. The whole park isn't that big, so I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think they have any hookups, so be prepared to dry camp.

RE: Rotton Egg Smell

The smell is caused by bacteria in the hw tank, and there is tons of info on the net regarding this problem, which happens in residential heaters as well. The main solution is strong chlorine treatment to sterilize the tank. Just google for smelly hot water and you'll find the answers.

RE: New Jayco Water Connections

My Jayco Greyhawk has a similar arrangement for the valves, which I like except for one thing. You can't easily fill the tank unless you have a hose connected to the fitting. Many campgrounds have broken/smashed/missing hose fittings on their fresh water hoses which makes it harder to fill the tank. I have to look around for a good hose bibb to connect my own hose. I know you can do it with a bucket using the pump but thats even more trouble as far as I'm concerned. I wish it had the old fashioned fill opening on the side where I could just stick a hose into the hole. Also, I wish I could see the actual tank while filling to see the water level. My old class A had the tank right inside the door and I could see the level thru the plastic. This one, I have to guess at how much is in there or wait till it comes out the overflow. Minor complaints, though. I like the MH very much otherwise.

RE: Fresh water bypass valve

The valve is something that is usually piped in at the factory, not added afterwards. Ours is behind the water heater in the bedroom, accessed by opening up a panel under the wardrobe. Our previous MH had it in the bathroom behind the drawers. Check the cabinets inside, behind the water heater. There may be 3 valves, open the middle one and close the other two.

RE: Norcold error message "N"

Thanks a million for all your help. He performed the reset (twice) as listed and the refer is now working properly. Saved him a bunch of dough, as he was going to buy a new cooling unit, which may not have even fixed the problem.

Norcold error message "N"

A friend has a Norcold N62 refer and has an error message N on the screen. According to their TSB this is a problem and requires a service call. You can reset the control once but only once, then it has to go to the dealer. I think he ran it when he wasn't parked level, which may have caused the problem. Has anyone had this situation, and do you know the fix for it? Thanks

RE: Jayco Greyhawk - Modifying Black/Grey Water

Thats interesting that they changed the whole design of the unit. I have an '06 Greyhawk and both valves are in the side compartment with all other utilities. The hose goes out the bottom into a large L fitting for dumping. I did hear that they stopped making the basement style, so I guess thats the reason. I think they also reduced the storage by quite a bit but at least you have an additional 500# of weight capacity this year.

RE: Putting cover on .How?

I've had covers for my 30' class A and now for our 30' C. It's not bad once you get a system in place. Tie a rope around it when it's rolled up. Throw the rope onto the roof, climb up and pull the cover up the side. Unroll down the center, drop the sides down and you're sort of done. To roll it up you should have someone helping below to lift it off of things it gets caught on. Pull up each side and fold into the center a few times, making a narrow strip. Roll from rear to front, then tie the rope onto it and lower it down. Reverse to install. Only really takes about 15-20 min to do and worth it when you go camping and it's all clean and the decals aren't faded or peeling away.

RE: Xantrex Pro XM1800 odd behavior

I have to add more to my first post- I'm betting the farm that your problem goes away if you use a shorter extension cord or a heavier one. My XM1800 Pro did exactly the same thing when I used the microwave or plugged in my home vacuum cleaner. Worked fine with a small load like tv. I also installed a sub panel and all neutrals are isolated as required. AC does pass through when the unit is turned off. It really does work great on battery power, and also at home now that I have a shorter, heavier cord.
Forget the part about the farm. It's already been foreclosed on.

RE: Xantrex Pro XM1800 odd behavior

Your problem is most likely caused by using an extension cord to plug in to your MH. I have the same inverter and it did the same thing with the microwave cycling on-off because of voltage drop thru the extension cord. Try a heavier gauge cord or plug in direct and I'll bet your problem goes away. Mine did and the unit works great now.

RE: Just bought a 1990 34FT Pace arrow WHAT A LEMON

I recently sold my 91 P.A., which was in excellent condition but starting to get a little delamination on the outsides. That vintage (including yours) had those delam problems on the outsides, so watch the roof seams. Your roof is prob rubber (I think you said fiberglass but check again) so don't use any silicone at all. Stick with the Eternabond on that top edge, which should stop any further damage, then just do your repairs inside. They are a pretty well built MH, good quality with nice interiors. Fix it and use it, you'll be ok in the long run I think.

RE: Jayco Greyhawk 31ss

We have a Greyhawk 30gs mainly because I prefer the floorplan over the 31ss. When having guests its inconvenient to have all seating on one side, much nicer when you can face your guests across the aisle. Also we like the bedroom layout going sideways with the slide, giving a bigger bath and making the unit shorter. You really have to watch your weight with these units and the long overhang. We went on vacation with 4 adults, 2 little kids and with a full tank of water we were about 1000# over on the rear axle. I think it would be ok with the two of us, empty holding tanks, and 1/2 tank fresh water. I'm pretty careful with my loading too, but there's only so much you can do. Mine is an '06 which has about 50cf storage. I see on the later ones that the storage is down to less than 20cf.

RE: Jayco 30GS - Slide cut LP hose

Where is the hose accessible? I have an '06 Greyhawk 30GS and want to check it out. Is it under the sink cabinet or stove or is it buried somewhere else? Thanks

RE: Gouldings or Cadillac Ranch in Utah?

Never heard of Cadillac ranch but as others say, Gouldings is nice for a commercial, full hookup park. Nice view of mountains in the distance and above the campground but you can't see the valley from there Nice indoor pool, too. Our favorite, though, is the Navajo Tribal Park a few miles away, right on the rim of the valley. No hookups but you can't describe the view at sunrise or sunset when parked on that rim. Nothing like it in the world. At least, stay a night or two there if you can. No reservations, only about $10 night or so.

RE: Spaciousness Hype

We moved from a class A to a 30' C with two slides (Jayco). Most of the time it works fine for the two of us and two dogs, and the cat occasionally but has the extra sleeping room for grandkids. The one thing I don't like is the lack of seating. Our A had the couch, dinette, extra rocker, and the swiveling front seats in 30'. This one, and most C's, has the couch, dinette, and thats it. If you entertain a bit or have more family inside it gets cramped. I keep a couple of folding chairs inside for extra seating without using our outside camp chairs.
Also, I'm sure your realize the queens are "short" ones. Width is correct but they're several inches shorter, if it makes any diff.

RE: Noisy Kitchen Stove Fan

The quietest residential fans are always the ones that are mounted in the exhaust duct far away from the stove, and the ones in the normal vent hood are pretty noisy, I agree. I suppose you could look at Nutone and other mfgrs that would make a new hood in your size, then look for the one with the lowest sones rating.
Another thing I just thought about..is your fan a 12v? That makes it even harder and I think you're stuck. Mine is a 115v but is built into the bottom of the microwave, so I'm also stuck. You might try a thicker filter material or add another layer under your metal filter but it will also cut down on the draft. How about installing a rheostat on the motor so you could slow it down to just what you require? That may be the best option of all.
